xTool buying notes · Configuration matters
Before you buy the bundle, check the work area.
The machine name does not always tell you how much of a project you can process. xTool documents smaller work areas for some honeycomb setups and higher-power modules. Check the exact configuration—not just the biggest number in the listing.

What changes when you change the configuration?
For P2S, the difference here is the support arrangement. For M2 and S1, it is the laser module. The percentages describe rectangle area only—not speed, power, value, or overall machine capability. Baselines are P2S standard slats, M2 10W/20W, and S1 20W.
| Exact configuration | Width × depth | Rectangle area | Less area than family baseline |
|---|---|---|---|
| P2S · Standard slats | 600 × 305 mm | 183,000 mm² | 0.0% |
| P2S · Original honeycomb panel in machine | 556 × 280 mm | 155,680 mm² | 14.9% |
| P2S · Original honeycomb panel in riser base | 500 × 250 mm | 125,000 mm² | 31.7% |
| M2 10W / 20W | 426 × 320 mm | 136,320 mm² | 0.0% |
| M2 40W | 426 × 312 mm | 132,912 mm² | 2.5% |
| S1 · 20W | 498 × 330 mm | 164,340 mm² | 0.0% |
| S1 · 40W | 498 × 319 mm | 158,862 mm² | 3.3% |
A small percentage can still matter when a design sits close to an edge. Conversely, a smaller processing rectangle may not matter at all for your usual projects. Start with the size you need, not a “largest area wins” ranking.
Three designs that change the answer
These are square design rectangles, not claims about loading a physical blank. Rotating a square does not solve the shortfall. “Spare depth” is the total nominal difference, not space on each side.
1. A 12 × 12-inch design on P2S
Twelve inches is exactly 304.8 mm. Against the standard 600 × 305 mm slats area, that square has just 0.2 mm of total nominal depth spare. The original honeycomb in the machine has only 280 mm of processing depth: the same design exceeds it by 24.8 mm. In the original honeycomb/riser arrangement, the shortfall is 54.8 mm.
The geometry barely passes on slats, but the checker deducts no framing, clamping, fixture, focus, or process margins. A geometric pass is not a practical processing recommendation. Open this example and switch P2S supports.
2. A 315 × 315 mm design on M2
The documented 10W/20W area has 320 mm of depth, leaving 5 mm nominally. The documented 40W area is 312 mm deep, so the design exceeds it by 3 mm. That 8 mm module-dependent difference is only a 2.5% reduction in rectangle area, yet it changes this fit result.
The user guide documents these module-specific areas. The M2 FAQ’s module list is incomplete, so confirm the exact module available in your region and the selected support with xTool. Our checker retains that uncertainty rather than presenting a purchase approval. Compare the two M2 module choices.
3. A 325 × 325 mm design on S1
xTool’s guide lists 498 × 330 mm for S1 20W and 498 × 319 mm for S1 40W. This square leaves 5 mm of nominal depth in the 20W rectangle but exceeds the 40W rectangle by 6 mm. The 40W rectangle is 3.3% smaller in area; that is not a claim that the 20W machine is better overall.
The interactive S1 record on this site is specifically S1 40W. Use the source-linked table above for the 20W comparison; do not interpret a calculator result for 40W as a result for 20W. Check the S1 40W example.
Which option is worth researching next?
These are configuration questions, not a ranking of the three machines. Work-area fit cannot establish material suitability, processing performance, room readiness, or safe operation. Check those separately before buying.
xTool P2S
Useful for you if: You have shortlisted P2S for a separately verified material and process, and need to choose between standard slats and an original honeycomb setup.
Pause or skip this configuration if: Do not assume a 12-inch-square design fits every P2S bundle. Original honeycomb configurations in this comparison are too shallow for that design.

Useful for you if: You are choosing an exact M2 module and your design approaches the documented 312–320 mm depth boundary.
Pause or skip this configuration if: Do not order a 40W configuration for a 315 mm-square design on the assumption that every M2 has the 10W/20W work area. Confirm the purchasable regional module and support.

Useful for you if: You are comparing the documented S1 20W and 40W processing rectangles and have separately confirmed the module suits your intended material and process.
Pause or skip this configuration if: Do not choose 40W solely because the wattage is higher if your design needs more than 319 mm of depth. This site’s interactive S1 profile represents 40W, not 20W.

- Write down your largest design. Use exact dimensions, not a rounded sheet-size label. Separate design size from the physical material-loading envelope.
- Record the module and support. “S1,” “M2,” or “P2S bundle” is not specific enough. Include wattage, original versus other honeycomb generations, riser position, and intended processing mode.
- Ask about the usable area for that exact combination. Framing, fixtures, focus, margins, oversize feeding, and material suitability are separate from this rectangle screen. Do not assume an accessory extends the area successfully.
- Check what is actually included. Compare the current cart’s module, support, exhaust equipment, and required dependencies. Use the setup cost and accessory builder; this guide does not quote a checkout price or promise savings.
- Check the room and delivery path. A work area is not a machine-body footprint. Read the 40-pair workbench depth study, then document the delivery route and installation questions.

Sources, calculation, and limits
Published and source-checked September 23, 2026. Area = width × depth. Percentage reduction = (1 − selected area ÷ family baseline area) × 100, rounded to one decimal place. Examples subtract exact design depth from documented processing depth; inch conversions use exactly 25.4 mm per inch.
- xTool P2/P2S honeycomb-panel processing areas: standard slats, original honeycomb inside the machine, and original honeycomb in the riser base. This guide does not extend these values to another honeycomb generation or setup.
