Describe what changes
Personalization can change a coating, alter surface appearance or remove material. Cutting adds a separate requirement: separating stock through its thickness. Ask which process an advertised example demonstrates; the word engraving alone does not answer that question.
Identify alloy, finish and coating. A mark on anodized aluminum is not evidence for untreated aluminum. Removing a tumbler coating does not establish deep engraving in the metal underneath. Document both the starting surface and finished result.
Verify the exact model and process
Near-infrared marking modules and fiber systems are research candidates for selected metal work, not interchangeable tools. xTool documents metal marking and engraving for F2 but says F2 cannot cut metal. Other model-specific capability must be checked independently; neither a marking sample nor a higher wattage establishes a through-cut.
For cutting, request current exact-model evidence naming alloy and thickness, then assess a representative part against required detail, edges and dimensions. Record supporting accessories and differences from your job. Unknown coatings remain outside any processing recommendation, even if a similar-looking object appears in a demonstration.
Turn the question into a decision record.
| Question | Evidence | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Is the result in coating or metal? | Original surface and the change produced. | Compare the same intended process. |
| Is cutting documented? | Exact model, material and thickness claim. | Leave cutting unresolved if only marking is shown. |
| Does the part meet requirements? | Representative detail, edges and dimensions. | Define acceptance criteria first. |
Four questions worth keeping.
- Which alloy and finish will you buy?
- Visible mark or material removal?
- Is through-cutting essential?
- Which features must a sample prove?

xTool F2 15W diode + 5W IR
15 W 445 nm blue-light diode + 5 W 1064 nm infrared
Evidence reviewed: 2026-09-14. This is the specification review date, not a current price or stock check.
Still to resolve: exact-stock proof, required finish, project dimensions, delivery, ventilation, utilities and total setup cost. No numeric operating, bystander, service, hose-bend, cable, or accessory clearance published in cited sources.
Rule it out if: the exact configuration cannot document your required process or work area, or the room and operating requirements cannot be resolved. A Class 4 configuration does not establish permission for public or bystander operation.
