Craft-fair orders without unsafe demos

Separate taking craft-fair orders from operating a laser in public. Plan artwork approval and off-site fulfillment before choosing portable equipment.

Map each stage of an order

Write the steps from customer request to accepted item: artwork approval, spelling check, stock identification, setup, attended processing, inspection, payment and collection. Assign responsibilities. Processing time alone excludes the waiting, handling and correction work that shapes a real queue.

Decide which tasks happen at the venue and which happen elsewhere. Taking orders on-site for later production can be a distinct workflow from operating a laser in public. Compare both without assuming that a compact or enclosed machine is automatically acceptable at an event.

Get venue and operating constraints in writing

Ask the organizer about permitted activity, power, extraction/discharge, fire procedures, public separation and insurance requirements. Confirm exact-equipment operating restrictions with the manufacturer. Where the configuration or venue needs specialist review, obtain it before advertising live production.

Run a measured rehearsal using identified stock and permitted equipment under its documented operating conditions. Record total order time, mistakes, interruptions and the acceptance criteria. Use those observations in a conservative order-capacity plan; do not infer a sales rate or unattended capability from a product demonstration.

Turn the question into a decision record.

Evidence to collect before a purchase decision
QuestionEvidenceNext action
Who approves on-site activity?Written venue conditions and applicable professional review.Do not equate portability with permission.
Where does the queue form?Measured complete-order rehearsal, not just laser time.Separate order intake, processing and collection.
What happens when an item fails?Documented inspection and rework/refund policy.Reserve capacity and cost for the agreed response.

Four questions worth keeping.

  1. Could you take orders without on-site processing?
  2. Who attends active operation?
  3. How will customer details stay private?
  4. What is the plan for venue rejection or downtime?
